Serious collision near Corwen leaves one dead and one seriously injured – Police appeal for witnesses

A man has died and another man has been seriously injured following a road traffic collision near Corwen yesterday evening, Wednesday 16th March.

Police were informed of a collision shortly after 5:30pm yesterday which happened the A5104 in Bryneglwys and involved a grey Citroen C3, which was travelling from the Corwen direction and a red Nissan van which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Fire and Ambulance attended the scene as well as North Wales Police’ Collision Investigation Unit and the road was closed whilst a full forensic collision investigation took place.

Two Air Ambulances were sent to the scene of the collision airlifting one passenger to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan and a second was flown to Stoke.

The driver of the Nissan van who was taken to hospital in Stoke has sadly died.

The driver of the Citroen was also transferred to hospital in Stoke where he remains with serious injuries.

A passenger from the Nissan was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital and the passenger from the Citroen was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with what is believed to be minor injuries.

Sergeant Raymond Williams from the Roads Policing Unit said:

“We are appealing for witnesses who may have information that could assist our investigation to come forward.”

The road re-opened shortly after 11pm.
