Westbound A55 at Broughton reopens after a serious collision

Update 4: The road has fully reopened as of 1am.

Update 3. The A55 closure is expected to last until the early hours of Saturday morning, Highways England said:

“Information from scene indicates that the road will remain closed until at least 2am tomorrow. 

Traffic is being diverted to follow the solid black square symbol, south on the A483 , west on the B5102 and North on the B5373 and A550.”

Update 2. Closure is expected to be in place for ‘a number of hours.’

Highways England have updated via twitter:

‘#A55 westbound is closed between the #A483 (just south of #Chester) and the Welsh border, due to a collision in Wales.

Emergency services are at scene. Info from scene indicates that this closure will remain in place for a number of hours.’

Update 1. Police say the westbound carriageway of the A55 at Broughton is closed due to a collision.

The road has been closed from junction 38, the Posthouse roundabout to junction 36 at Warren Bank.

All emergency services are at the scene.

Traffic Wales has said:’

in the area of J36 Westbound is currently extremely busy due to a serious police incident. Please avoid the area if possible.’

A traffic report for the areas states two vehicles are involved however reports on social media suggest more could be involved:

A55 Westbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident, two accident involved from J38 A483 Wrexham Road (Posthouse Roundabout) to J36 A5104 Mold Road (Warren Bank Interchange).

The road is now being closed following an accident near the exit slip road for Broughton.

There is a little bit of trapped traffic within the closure. Affecting traffic heading between Chester and the A494.’
