A Welsh Ambulance Service employee is preparing to take on a mammoth 156-mile solo walk between Rhyl and Cardiff.

Kieran Reynolds, 31, from Rhyl, is a training assistant at the Welsh Ambulance Service’s St Asaph HQ.

He aims to start the walk on 28 August and hopes to complete the challenge over the course of seven days.

To make things even more challenging, when it’s time to recharge and get some rest, Kieran plans to camp outdoors along the route.

Kieran is taking on the gruelling trek in aid of two charitable organisation.

The first is the The Ambulance Staff Charity, which uses donations to support employees of the Trust. The second is the Ambulance Service Charity (TASC), which provides a range of services to support the mental health, physical rehabilitation and financial wellbeing of ambulance staff, paramedic students and service volunteers across the UK.

“I have been an employee of the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAST) since March 2021 and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it and I plan to be here for many more years,” said Kieran.

“Before joining WAST I never fully understood the pressures the Ambulance Service faced from the outside looking in.

“Now I understand and I have really taken it upon myself the last 12 months to improve staff morale and well-being.

“This walk is a great opportunity to raise some money to support ambulance charities.

David Hopkins, Head of Charity at the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We are extremely grateful to Kieran for supporting the Welsh Ambulance Service Charity this summer.

“Through his passion for walking and wild camping, Kieran will raise vital funds so that the Charity can continue to support WAST’s staff, volunteers and patients right across Wales.

“Our thanks go to Kieran and to all of his supporters.”
