A burst water main in Broughton is again causing supply problems for households across Flintshire.

The temporary repair carried out last weekend has failed, and engineers are now carrying out a full emergency repair.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water says the work is affecting customers in Flint, Holywell, Ffynnongroyw, Greenfield, Llanerch y Mor, Mostyn, Oakenholt, Talacre, Whitford, Queensferry, Shotton, Connah’s Quay, Garden City, Hawarden, Mancot and Sandycroft.

The earlier repair had been put in place to allow the main to be refilled and service reservoirs replenished before a permanent fix was attempted. The aim was to avoid any disruption to customers.

The company said the repair is complex due to the pipe being located four metres underground and close to underground electric cables.

Bottled water stations have been set up at:

  • Jade Jones Pavilion, Flint CH6 5ER
  • Park & Ride Car Park, Deeside Industrial Park, CH5 2NY
  • County Hall Car Park, Mold CH7 6NF.

“We ask that customers work with us and take only what you need.” Welsh Water has said.

Bottled water is also being delivered to vulnerable customers and those affected have been contacted by text message.

Peter Perry, Chief Executive of Welsh Water, said: “I’d like to express my sincere apologies to our customers in the Flintshire area who are experiencing disruption to their water supplies as a result of the burst water main in Broughton.

“I can assure you that our teams are working tirelessly on the repair in tough conditions given the water main is over 4 metres deep and surrounded by electric cables. We understand how disruptive it is to be without water, and the impact this is having on homes and businesses.

“I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience and understanding whilst we undertake this work and I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.”

Welsh Water added that teams had been working through the night to resolve what it described as a “significant incident” as quickly and safely as possible.
