Two repeat shoplifters jailed after Flintshire crime spree

Two repeat offenders have been jailed for a series of shoplifting offences across Flintshire.
Lee Harmes, 38, of Rhodfa Caradog, Oakenholt, and Daniel Tinker, 36, of no fixed abode, targeted stores across Flint, Bagillt, Holywell and Shotton, causing significant disruption to retailers.
They were sentenced at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Tuesday 5 August.
Harmes was jailed for a total of 46 weeks, after a 22-week suspended sentence was activated in full, in addition to a 24-week sentence for a number of shoplifting and other offences.
Tinker received 24 weeks’ imprisonment, with a 22-week suspended sentence activated in full to run consecutively.
Acting District Inspector Tom Matthews said: “These persistent offenders who cause a significant demand locally were arrested, charged and remanded over the weekend.
“This follows targeted action by officers under Operation Bastion, an operation which focuses on persistent shoplifting offenders. We’ve already seen a reduction in retail crime locally following the launch of the operation, and we’ll continue to work with partners, such as Flintshire Against Business Crime, to identify and prosecute offenders and protect local businesses.”
