Team GB star opens new Aldi store at Airfields in Deeside

A brand-new Aldi store at Airfields in Deeside has officially opened, with Team GB diving bronze medallist Lois Toulson cutting the ribbon.
The store, the first Aldi on Welsh Road, is managed by Spencer Kearney and a team of 27 colleagues from the local community. The first 30 customers through the doors received complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range.
As part of the opening celebrations, Lois Toulson will deliver a virtual assembly to pupils at a local primary school after the summer break. The session is part of Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh programme, which encourages children aged 5–14 to learn about cooking fresh, healthy meals. Since 2015, Aldi has supported Team GB athletes with monthly vouchers to promote healthy eating.

Pupils will also have the chance to win a £20 Aldi gift voucher by creating a poster showing what healthy eating means to them. The winner will be announced by Lois during the assembly.
Store Manager Spencer Kearney said: “It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks. I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support a local primary school through our partnership with Team GB.”
Lois Toulson said: “It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time. I am looking forward to speaking with the local school children about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family.”

The store includes large chillers and freezers for fresh Welsh meat, a ‘Food to Go’ section, and a dedicated Health & Beauty range. Shoppers can also browse Aldi’s Specialbuys every Thursday and Sunday. Opening week offers include a Powerbank/3-in-1 Charger for £9.99, Bluetooth Headphones for £11.99, Pencil Cases for £3.99 and stationery from 99p.
Aldi is also inviting local charities and food banks in Deeside to register with community engagement platform Neighbourly to collect surplus food such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods seven days a week. Charities can email [email protected] to take part.
