Shotton pupils turn little fish into BIG FISH for aid agency Lent appeal

Pupils from Venerable Edward Morgan School in Shotton held a creative charity fundraiser to help turn little fish into Big Fish, as part of aid international development charity CAFOD’s Lent fundraising campaign.

As part of learning about communities around the world, the young pupils at Edward Morgan were inspired by the story of Florence, a mother in Zambia whose life has been transformed thanks to CAFOD partners training her in fish farming.

So, on Friday 17 March, the pupils at the school made their own ‘fishy friends’ hats which they wore throughout the day and with sponsorship managed to raise over £150 for CAFOD’s Lent appeal.

A representative at the school said:

We have raised £168 today to ‘help turn little fish into big fish’ for CAFOD and it was ‘o-fish-ally’ fun! Thank you to everyone who took part in the day.

This Lent, CAFOD is working with communities in the South African country of Zambia.

It is estimated that over half of Zambians live below the poverty line. This means that many families do not have enough money to meet basic needs such as food, housing and clothing.

CAFOD’s partners in Zambia provide training in fish farming, beekeeping and crop farming as well as helping individuals within communities develop business skills so those most in need understand how to get a better price for their goods, market them and even set up business partnerships.

By training individuals in the community, they will be able to share their new knowledge and empower the whole community.

The money raised by Venerable Edward Morgan will mean that CAFOD’s partners will be able to continue to support projects around the world.
