Save up to £2,000 a year with Tax-Free Childcare from 6 August

Working families are being encouraged to sign up for Tax-Free Childcare this Playday, 6 August, to help reduce their childcare costs.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) says families can save up to £2,000 a year per child under 11, and up to £4,000 for disabled children up to 16, when paying for childcare in 75,000 settings across the UK.
These settings include nurseries, registered childminders, holiday clubs, and before and after school clubs.
Playday, held annually on the first Wednesday in August, celebrates children’s right to play and highlights the importance of play for health and development.
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “Whether your child is interested in football, climbing, crafting or dance, there’s a huge variety of childcare settings accepting Tax-Free Childcare. Children can learn something new and have fun with their friends while their parents save on their childcare bills. Visit GOV.UK to sign up today.”
Families can use Tax-Free Childcare to pay for summer activities or prepare for the new school term’s breakfast and after-school clubs. Parents deposit money into an account and the government adds 20p for every 80p saved, providing up to £500 every three months per child, or £1,000 for disabled children.
To qualify, families must have a child under 11, or under 16 if disabled, with earnings of at least the National Minimum or Living Wage for 16 hours a week, and each parent earning no more than £100,000 annually. Those receiving Universal Credit or childcare vouchers are not eligible.
Tax-Free Childcare can be used alongside free childcare hours where applicable.
