Refurbished Flint courts set to become North Wales basketball hub

Flint’s outdoor basketball courts have reopened following a £99,000 refurbishment, aimed at supporting both casual and competitive play across North Wales.
The upgraded facility, located opposite the Jade Jones Pavilion, features a new high-performance tarmac surface, fresh court markings, and four ‘Mega Slam’ professional-grade basketball hoops.
The project was funded by Sport Wales and delivered through a partnership with Basketball Wales, Welsh Government, and Flintshire County Council.
The official reopening last weekend was attended by Carolyn Thomas MS, Councillor Mared Eastwood, and representatives from Gwella, Flintshire’s leisure and library services partner.
Carolyn Thomas MS said: “The investment in refurbishing the courts has resulted in the delivery of a state-of-the-art public sporting facility, suitable for both seasoned basketballers and first-time players.”
The courts are now part of the Basketball Wales Summer Tour. It is hoped Flint will become a regional hub, attracting players from North Wales, Cheshire, and beyond.
Ms Thomas added: “This fantastic facility will draw players from across the region, offering a space that inspires exercise, wellbeing, and inclusion. It is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through collaborative working – and of the wider health, cultural, and economic benefits that come with investing in modern public sports infrastructure.”
