Community hub Ty Calon, based at the Queensferry Campus, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning.

In a post on social media, the centre said the break-in took place at around 3.15am when three youths forced their way inside, causing damage to three windows, one of which was pulled completely off its hinges.

The post stated: “We’re devastated… At 3:15am this morning, Ty Calon was broken into by three youths. They forced their way into our building, causing damage to three windows; one of which was pulled completely off its hinges. Thankfully, nothing was stolen (not for the want of trying), but the damage and violation left behind has left us heartbroken and feeling very vulnerable.”

Ty Calon added: “Ty Calon exists to bring people together, to provide a safe and welcoming environment and to support our community. Incidents like this are not just an attack on our building, but on everything we stand for. We will not let this mindless behaviour stop us from moving forward, but we wanted to share what has happened with you, our community, who care for Ty Calon as much as we do.”

The centre continued: “As this event happened in the early hours of the morning, we don’t expect there to be any direct eyewitnesses. However, we do believe these individuals were walking around the area looking for somewhere to break into or cause damage. It’s possible that other local businesses or homes may also have been targeted. Please stay vigilant and check your properties for any signs of damage.”

This is not the first time the community hub has been targeted.

In April this year, vandals damaged Ty Calon’s much-loved pond, breaking solar filters, water fountains, fish shelters and fencing.

That followed an earlier attack in August 2024 when thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the same site.
