Police side to face Wrexham Legends in farewell game

Wrexham Police FC will play their final match next month, marking the end of a three-year charity and community fundraising campaign.
Formed in early 2022, the team of off-duty officers has played monthly fixtures in support of local and national charities. In that time, more than £65,000 has been raised for good causes while helping to strengthen ties between policing and the community.
The final fixture will see the police side take on a Wrexham Legends XI at Airbus Broughton on Sunday, 14 September.
Funds raised will go toward the refurbishment of an oncology bay on the Wrexham Maelor Children’s Ward. Donations will support improvements to guest facilities, a new washroom, a TV, and a games console for young patients.
Reflecting on the team’s achievements, club founder North Flintshire Neighbourhood Sgt Dave Smith said: “It’s been an incredible journey over the last three years.
“Right from the start, we just wanted to go out there and use football to break down barriers between the police and the public, and to build a stronger connection with our local communities.
“Since we began this project, we’ve helped hospices, homeless charities, mental health organisations, domestic abuse support services, and local hospitals.
“We’re thankful for the widespread support we’ve had, and proud of what we’ve achieved as a team.
“The money raised has made a real difference to so many deserving causes.
“We’re really looking forward to this final match against Wrexham Legends.
“Everyone’s welcome on the day, with donations being collected at the gate and via our online JustGiving page.”
