Police appeal after serious assault in Chester city centre

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man was seriously assaulted in Chester city centre.
The incident began at 1.10pm on Saturday 13 September, when police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted near to the Best-One store on the A51, Boughton.
The caller reported that the incident had involved three unknown men who were all wearing dark clothing, one of whom was wearing a grey hoodie. The men were reported to have hit the victim with a bottle of vodka.
Officers attended and a 40-year-old local man was found with minor injuries, but he refused to provide an account of the incident.
At 3.10pm the same day officers were called to reports of a second incident outside the Corner House on City Road, Chester.
On arrival the same 40-year-old man was found unconscious near to the subway. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Enquiries in relation to the incidents are ongoing and two local men, aged 26 and 62, have since been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. They are currently being held in police custody.
Detective Inspector Ross Hamilton, of Western CID, said:
“I understand the concerns these incidents are likely to cause, and I would likely to reassure residents that we are committed to doing all we can to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
“From our initial enquiries, we believe that these were targeted incidents and those involved were all known to each other.
“As part of our ongoing investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and believes that they may have witnessed either of the incidents.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage, City Road and the A51 are both busy roads so there are likely to have been several motorists passing through when the incidents occurred.
“I’d urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Chester on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML-2175410.”
Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
