Off-road bike seized in Mancot as police step up action

North Wales Police say they have seized an off-road bike in the Mancot area as part of their ongoing clampdown on illegal riding.
The force’s North Flintshire team said:
“We’ve been very clear for a long time that we have zero tolerance on off-road bikes. This one was seen being ridden on the road in the Mancot area. In this case it wasn’t running but that doesn’t matter because it was being ridden – the definitions of the powers we have mean we can seize it – so we did.”
In a separate incident, officers reported an off-road bike failing to stop for them in Greenfield. Police are appealing for information about a white and red bike ridden by a person wearing a balaclava and glasses.

The post on the North Flintshire policing Facebook page prompted dozens of comments from residents.
Some praised the action, with one person writing: “Well done, these bikes are an accident waiting to happen on the junction of Mancot Lane and Colliery Lane.”
Others criticised the seizure, arguing the bike was not in use at the time.
One commenter said: “How can you seize a bike that wasn’t working and being pushed – it’s not illegal to push an off-road bike.”
Another added: “Surrounded by police for pushing a bike to the shop, but they only caught the broken one. Guess the others were just too good.”
Several residents also highlighted ongoing concerns about off-road and electric bikes in areas including Connah’s Quay, Garden City, Northop Hall and Queensferry, with reports of riders using cycle paths, footpaths and village streets while wearing balaclavas.
