NSPCC Cymru seeks volunteers in North Wales for child safety program
This month, NSPCC Cymru is reaching out to the communities across North Wales with a heartfelt appeal for volunteers to support their Speak Out Stay Safe program.
The crucial initiative focuses on delivering essential child safeguarding messages to local schoolchildren, utilising age-appropriate language and interactive workshops.
The program, featuring the friendly mascot Buddy, is designed to help children aged 5 to 11 recognise and understand abuse in all its forms.
In the past year, dedicated volunteers in Mid and West Wales have successfully delivered this program to an impressive 7,024 children across 49 schools. Across Wales, the initiative has reached 29,517 children in 180 schools, highlighting its substantial impact.
Despite these achievements, NSPCC Cymru is determined to extend its reach.
“Our goal is clear – we want to reach every child in every classroom. But to achieve this, we urgently need more volunteers,” a spokesperson for NSPCC Cymru stated.
The Schools Service, described as a family-like community, offers volunteers an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and make a significant difference in children’s lives.
Volunteers are crucial in conveying the message that abuse is never a child’s fault, educating them on their right to safety, and guiding them on how to seek help from safe adults and the NSPCC’s Childline service.
The commitment is manageable, with volunteers required to visit only two schools a month, yet their impact can be profound and long-lasting.
NSPCC Cymru ensures that all volunteers receive comprehensive training and support, preparing them effectively for their role in the schools.
