New Exhibition Marks Craft & Design Month in Wrexham
A Wrexham art school has launched a new exhibition this week to celebrate Craft and Design Month in the town.
Wrexham Glyndwr University lecturers and regional makers are showing their work at the exhibition, Material Matters, in the North Wales School of Art and Design (NWSAD) on Regent Street.
The free exhibit, which officially opened on Tuesday, is inviting the public to visit and see works from the school’s lecturers and local designers.
The exhibition features works from Wendy Lawrence, Wayne Clark, Simon Shaw, Meri Wells, Jennifer Barker, Brian Duffy, Steph Brown, Julie Mellor, Cerys Alonso and Sarah Hoare.
Cerys Alonso, Wrexham Glyndwr University’s Applied Arts programme leader, said: “The Applied Arts course is passionate about materials, craft skills and the importance of making, and as such has invited both staff and regional artists to exhibit work as part of Craft and Design Month.
“From the earliest point in mankind, making has been the most powerful way we have solved problems and expressed ideas that shape the world. The ability to create is what defines us as human and communicates who we want to be: inventing, innovating and challenging paradigms.”
There is wide range of materials on show including ceramics, glass and jewellery/silver-smithing.
Craft and Design Month supports and promotes designer makers and small creative businesses across Britain.
Wayne Clark, a technical demonstrator in Fine and Applied Arts, at NWSAD, who helped organise the event, said: “We wanted to help support Craft and Design Month as well as support local makers and show their work here too. We welcome everyone to come visit the exhibit.”
The exhibition Material Matters is open from 10am until 4pm until Friday 6th May.
