Mold invites residents to mark 80th anniversary of VJ Day

Mold Town Council is inviting residents to a community get together on Friday 15 August to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, commemorating Victory over Japan Day.
The event will take place on Daniel Owen Square from 12 noon until 1.30pm and offers a quieter, reflective occasion following the success of the VE Day celebrations earlier this year.
Everyone is welcome to join for a free cup of tea or coffee, meet friends and neighbours, and remember this historic moment together.
Jane Evans, Events and Community Engagement Officer at Mold Town Council, said the gathering will be smaller with no live entertainment but with a special guest appearance by “Winston Churchill” himself, offering a photo opportunity and a chance for a smile.
“It would be lovely to see residents come along and enjoy a cuppa on the square to mark this important day. Sometimes it’s the simple moments, sitting together and remembering, that matter most,” she added.
Commemorations will continue on Saturday 16 August when Flintshire Markets will host a display of military vehicles and exhibits on Daniel Owen Square during the market.
Mold Town Council encourages everyone to come together to reflect and celebrate the community spirit that lasts across generations.
