Man jailed after Chester drug dealing investigation

A 29-year-old man has been sentenced following an investigation into drug dealing in Chester.
Kevin Ozemelam, of Bury Street in Salford, appeared at Chester Crown Court on 27 August where he was sentenced to 50 months in prison after admitting being concerned in the supply of cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy, and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
He was also given a five-year restraining order. Charges of requiring a person to perform forced or compulsory labour, and assault by beating were ordered to remain on file.
The case began on 5 April 2024 when a mobile phone left in a taxi was handed in at Chester police station. Messages visible on the lock screen indicated drug dealing.
A man attended to collect the phone and was arrested. Officers later seized his own phone and found evidence of drug supply, along with ecstasy pills, cannabis, ketamine, snap bags and digital scales at his address.
Enquiries led police to identify Ozemelam, who was circulated as wanted and arrested in Merseyside on 2 June. His phone was seized and linked him to the man who had tried to collect the lost phone.
Police said it appeared the man first arrested had been coerced into selling drugs and he was treated as a victim, with no further action taken against him.
Detective Inspector Rupert Morrey said:
“Ozemelam losing his phone turned out to be good fortune for our officers but not so for him. He is now paying the price for peddling illegal drugs in the community and we have taken a variety of drugs off the streets.
“We will continue to make every effort to rid the streets of illegal drugs and make life difficult for those intent on criminality.”
