A 40-year-old man from Birkenhead remains in police custody following a high-speed police pursuit during the early hours of Friday, March 24th.

At around 2:30 am, a roads traffic officer on mobile patrol in the Ewloe area spotted a vehicle of interest to police.

The officer followed the car onto the A494 towards Ruthin and signalled for the driver to stop.

However, the car failed to stop, prompting the officer to initiate a pursuit.

Shortly after, another officer arrived to assist, and the successful deployment of a stinger brought the car to a halt.

A North Wales Roads Police spokesperson said the “driver ran away from the scene and was followed by one of the officers on foot who caught up with him and he was arrested.”

“The 40-year-old man from Birkenhead remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of theft and various driving offences.”

“The 28-year-old male passenger, who is also from the Birkenhead area and who had remained in the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of theft.”

“He was later released under investigation while enquiries continue with our colleagues at Merseyside Police.”
