Essential repair work and upgrades will begin at Loggerheads Country Park on Monday 19th August, as part of a £1.4 million project funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up programme.

The work will include repairs to a river wall and bridge, flood mitigation measures, and improvements to visitor facilities such as the toilets, café, meeting room, and visitor centre. Solar panels will also be installed to improve the park’s sustainability.

Although all facilities at the park will remain open, visitors may experience some disruption to access and parking during the works, which are expected to last six to eight weeks.

Signage will be in place to direct visitors, and the Ranger Team will be available to provide advice.

One significant part of the project involves the removal of a section of the yew hedge to allow safe access to the river wall.

The roots of the hedge have caused damage by becoming entangled in the wall, leading to bank subsidence and undercutting.

The removed section will be replaced with established yew hedging once the works are complete.

The £1.4 million funding for Loggerheads forms part of a wider £10.95 million Levelling Up allocation to Denbighshire, which will also benefit Ruthin and surrounding rural communities including Moel Famau.

The upgrades at Loggerheads are designed to enhance visitor experience and manage the increasing numbers of visitors to the country park, which serves as a gateway to the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Local firms TACP Architects and Waterco have been appointed to lead the design work, with construction contracts set to be tendered soon. The overall project is scheduled to begin in May 2025 and complete by September 2025.

Denbighshire County Council said the improvements will help meet rising visitor expectations while addressing pressures on the site caused by increased footfall.
