Liverpool Philharmonic Hall will open its doors later this month for a day of free live music and performances.

The Hope Street venue is holding an Open Day on Sunday 28 September, showcasing the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, grassroots artists and homegrown talent.

Highlights include three mini-concerts from the Orchestra, organ recitals, a sing-along session with the Philharmonic Choir and performances from young musicians involved in In Harmony Liverpool.

Liverpool pianist Brad Kella will give a set alongside members of the Philharmonic Youth Company, with a surprise appearance from a local legend due to be revealed on the day.

Events will also take place in the Music Room, with curated sessions from local organisations including Milap, Liverpool Acoustic, LUMA Creations and Africa Oyé. Performers include Giuliano Modarelli, Kousic Sen, Jessica Dives, She’s In The Trees, Thom Morecroft, Satin Beige and Cill.

The Open Day also marks the beginning of Music Room 10, a special concert series running until 13 October celebrating a decade of the Philharmonic’s grassroots venue. Acts include Barbara Dickson, Ian Prowse, Tom Robinson and Catfish Keith, alongside international artists and folk sessions.

Vanessa Reed, Chief Executive of Liverpool Philharmonic, said: “I’m so excited for this year’s Open Day. It’s the perfect opportunity for anyone who hasn’t yet been to Liverpool Philharmonic to come and see what we’re all about – free of charge. We want all of our performances – from star soloists to our world class Orchestra – to feel wide open to everyone. The mini-concerts that feature throughout the day give all visitors a chance to experience the full power of a symphony orchestra in a relaxed setting. Smaller gigs which celebrate 10 years of hosting diverse artists and partners in the Music Room – our smaller grassroots venue – includes special guests and intimate gigs with homegrown talent. I look forward to seeing you there!”
