A joint operation between police and trading standards in Mold has led to the seizure of more than 3,100 illegal cigarettes, 1kg of hand-rolled tobacco, and 471 illicit vapes.

Officers from Flintshire South Neighbourhood Policing Team supported Flintshire Trading Standards in investigating a local shop suspected of selling illegal tobacco products.

During the operation, one person was arrested for working without legal permission in the UK.

Police say this could result in a fine of up to £60,000 for those responsible.

A trading standards spokesperson praised the outcome, stating: “Thank you for the excellent partnership work which provided impressive results at a shop in Mold which was causing major issues.”

Officials have warned that illegal tobacco and vape products can contain unknown and potentially harmful ingredients.

While concerns over unpaid tax are often raised, the primary risk is to public health.

Police and Trading Standards are urging residents to report any locations suspected of selling illegal tobacco products.
