North Wales Police target illegal off-road biking at Halkyn

North Wales Police have carried out patrols at the Pentre Halkyn protected nature site following reports of off-road vehicles being used there.
The patrols were run by the force’s Rural Crime Team and Neighbourhood Policing Officers, working with a Natural Resources Wales officer.
Pentre Halkyn is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a designation given to land protected for its wildlife, species or geology.
Police said the site has an ongoing problem with off-road bikes and vehicles being driven across the protected areas, causing damage to the land and harm to protected species.
Riding off-road bikes on protected land without permission is an offence.
Police said it can result in a vehicle being seized, as well as prosecution and fines.
Officers asked the public to report any illegal off-road biking in the area to Natural Resources Wales or to North Wales Police on 101, or 999 if there is an immediate risk to people or serious damage taking place.
Christina Sheehan, the Natural Resources Wales officer involved in the patrols, took part alongside the police teams.
Anyone reporting a sighting was asked to provide the date, time and exact location using What3Words, along with descriptions of the drivers, bikes or vehicles and any registration details.
Police also asked for photos or footage where it is safe to obtain them.
North Wales Police said information from the public helps officers and partner agencies take action against those damaging protected habitats and wildlife sites.
