Flintshire Students Build Skills with Sports and Adventure Activities
A group of students on a sports coaching course at a Flintshire high school enjoyed participating in a variety of exciting activities on a course to help develop their interpersonal skills.
The year 12 Flint High School students on the LLS Sport Coaching and Development Course at the school went to Liverpool on a two day residential programme where they met students from LLS’s other North Wales centres.
During the first day, the students took part in different sports and team building exercises, getting to know each other away from the classroom.
This was followed by a visit to the Airborn Academy, a purpose-built facility for learning new skills, staying fit, healthy and having fun, to take part in free running.
Finally, the students went to the Liverpool Watersports Centre near the Albert Dock for a canoeing session.
The students stayed overnight in LLS accommodation in the City, taking part in more sporting activities throughout the evening.
The following morning, the group started the day with a fitness session before going on a trip to Liverpool Hope University for a tour and a talk with staff in the School of Health and Sport Sciences
Andy Skeoch, PE teacher, coordinates the LLS programme at the school. He said: “The residential is an invaluable opportunity for students from different high schools to come together and build relationships, and for staff to get to know them away from the learning environment.
“Students continue to excel on the LLS course and make the most of the opportunities presented to them throughout the two-year programme. As a result, they develop a unique CV that helps them stand out. I am extremely proud of the hard work students show in their academic studies and particularly their work placement, which enables students to prepare for going abroad to coach independently and makes them excellent role models in the community.”
The LLS Sport Coaching and Development Course at Flint High School is specifically designed for 16-19 year old’s with a passion for sport.
Students study towards a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Development, Coaching and Fitness, the equivalent of three A level qualifications.
