Flintshire pupils tackle dog fouling with poster campaign

Pupils from Ysgol Mynydd Isa have helped to tackle the ongoing issue of dog fouling in play areas by creating posters for a new community campaign.
The project was a collaboration between the school, Argoed Community Council, Flintshire County Council and Keep Wales Tidy. Children were invited to design posters around the theme ‘dogs outside, kids inside’, encouraging owners to keep pets out of the fenced football area at Wat’s Dyke Park.
More than 200 entries were submitted, with judges independently selecting the same two winners. Max J. (Year 4) and Poppy B. (Year 2) saw their posters professionally printed and installed at the park entrances.
Councillor Mared Eastwood, Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language, Culture and Leisure, said: “This project is a powerful testament to the influence of youth voices in building safer, healthier communities. These children have demonstrated awareness, compassion, and a deep desire to improve their environment. Their posters are more than art – they are messages of action, respect, care and responsibility.”
Both pupils received certificates of achievement alongside the honour of having their work displayed permanently.
Flintshire County Council reminded residents that allowing dogs into designated play areas or failing to clean up after them breaches the Public Spaces Protection Order. Offenders can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice and fined up to £1,000.
