Firefighters tackle blaze at Hope Mountain
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews are tackling a fire on Hope Mountain.
Local residents are being urged to keep windows and doors closed to stop smoke entering their homes.
Members of the public are also being asked to avoid the area while firefighters deal with the blaze.
In a statement, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Our crews are currently dealing with a fire on Hope Mountain.”
“We’re asking the public to avoid the area and for local residents to keep windows and doors closed.”
“Once the smoke has dispersed open the windows and doors to ventilate your property.”
Crews are also currently attending a fire in the open at Brynford, near Holywell.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was receiving reports of controlled burning taking place across the region.
Given current dry conditions, the service is urging landowners and members of the public not to carry out controlled burns at this time, warning that fires can spread rapidly.
Anyone affected by smoke is advised to shelter indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and follow Public Health Wales for further advice.
The service said it continues to use a range of firefighting tactics at each incident, and aerial support is being considered where terrain and access are difficult.
At the Rhinogydd mountains near Cwm Bychan in Gwynedd, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service requested aerial support through Natural Resources Wales last week.
The request was approved, but the service said helicopter support from approved providers was not currently available due to demand from wildfire incidents elsewhere in the UK.
Jami Jennings, of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and chair of the Tactical Coordination Group, a multi-agency group overseeing the response, said:
“We would like to reassure the local community that the situation at these locations continues to be closely managed.”
“There is currently no indication that residents will need to leave their homes. Firefighters remain in close contact with those affected and are working with partner agencies to ensure appropriate support is available if required.”
“I’d like to re-iterate my thanks to our firefighters control staff and volunteer groups, as well as local residents and businesses for their support and patience.”
“We continue to meet regularly with partner organisations to help keep our communities safe.”
