Updated: Firefighters battle large blaze next to A494 in Queensferry
Update at 00.55: North Flintshire Police have issued an update following the large fire near the A494 in Queensferry, reassuring local residents that there is no cause for concern.
In a social media post, police explained that firefighters remain at the blaze on Riverside Way: “There are multiple crews on scene, but just to clarify the trucks have been moving back and forth to bring water to scene there aren’t 100+ engines here!!”
“There is no cause for concern at this time,” the update read. “Please keep your windows and doors closed, just to keep the smell out!”
Police are assisting with traffic management and scene coordination.
Specialised equipment has been deployed, and officials are hopeful for progress soon.
Earlier report: Residents near the A494 in Queensferry have been urged to close all doors and windows as firefighters tackle a significant blaze at the entrance to Riverside Way.
A large number of fire appliances are at the scene, with thick smoke drifting across the A494 and over the River Dee.
Police are assisting the fire service, deploying a helicopter to illuminate the area and a drone to monitor the situation from above.

In a social media statement just after 9pm, North Wales Police said:
“Due to an ongoing fire near the A494 Queensferry/ entrance to Riverside Way, please avoid the area and close all doors and windows due to smoke.”
The incident is compounding existing traffic disruptions in the area. The eastbound A494 is already closed for maintenance work on the River Dee crossing, while westbound traffic is reduced to one lane, resulting in slow-moving vehicles passing the scene of the fire.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
