DSN Celebrates 130 Years of Dedicated Service by Exceptional Staff

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

The Deaf & Sensory Network (DSN) is marking an extraordinary milestone as it celebrates the dedication of eight remarkable staff members who together have contributed 130 years of service.

Each has played a crucial role in advancing DSN’s mission to support and empower individuals with sensory impairments in Cheshire, North East Wales, and surrounding areas.

The eight honorees, whose years of dedication span roles in interpreting, supported living, social care, and more, have been recognised with long service awards.

Their commitment reflects DSN’s values of inclusivity, community support, and unwavering service to individuals with sensory needs.

One of the celebrated team members, Caroline Allkins, has worked as a British Sign Language Interpreter for DSN for 30 years.

Reflecting on her long tenure, Caroline shared: “For over 30 years, I have had what I believe to be the most rewarding job possible. To go to work every day interpreting British Sign Language and ensuring that Deaf people have access to information in their first language, enabling informed choices to make informed decisions, makes going to work a delight. Thanks to DSN, I’ve been supported and encouraged to grow into the interpreter I am today.”

Pam Craige and Neil McNally, with 25 years of service each, were also honoured for their dedication. Craige, who works as Projects Coordinator, and Neil, a Supported Living Support Worker, have both made a lasting impact in their respective fields.

Michelle Simpson, who has been with DSN for 20 years, leads executive-supported living programs, providing critical assistance to individuals with additional needs.

Other staff members recognised include Clarence Dwyer, a cleaner who has been with DSN for 10 years, and Stuart Jennion, Laura Jones, and Sallie Pane, who each serve in social care and supported living roles.

Sallie, DSN’s Team Manager for Social Care, reflected on her time with the organisation, saying: “Time has certainly flown by—I can hardly believe that I’ve been here for over 10 years now! This journey has never felt like ‘work’ in the traditional sense. I truly love coming to work and take immense pride in the impact DSN continues to make.”

Gill Reeder, DSN’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed her admiration for the honorees. “It is an absolute honour to recognise these dedicated colleagues whose commitment and passion have shaped DSN for so many years. Their combined service of 130 years speaks volumes about their unwavering support for our community, and we are deeply grateful for their invaluable contributions. The work they do each day makes a real difference in the lives of so many, and their dedication ensures we can continue to provide essential services for those in need.

Congratulations to each and every one of you,” Gill said.

Established in 1977, DSN has been a leader in sensory support services, with initiatives designed to improve the lives of those with sensory impairments. As the organisation continues to grow, the contributions of long-standing employees like Caroline, Pam, Neil, Michelle, Clarence, Stuart, Laura, and Sallie remain at the core of its mission.
