Driver arrested twice for drug driving in North Wales

A male driver from London was arrested twice in one day after testing positive for cannabis on the A55, North Wales Police (NWP) have confirmed.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RCU) first stopped the man near Caerwys on Saturday morning.
His driving raised concerns, prompting police to carry out a roadside drug test, which he failed.
He was arrested at the scene and advised not to continue driving, with officers offering him several alternatives, including taking a taxi, using public transport, or having someone else drive him.
Despite the warning, the man decided to continue his journey towards Bangor. Officers stopped him for a second time later in the day, where he once again tested positive for cannabis and was arrested.
In a statement shared on social media, NWP Roads Policing Unit said: “Funnily enough, he tested positive again for cannabis and was arrested for a second time!”
The police added that the driver now faces “an anxious wait” for the results of two blood tests, which could lead to a longer driving disqualification and substantial fines if confirmed.
The incident served as a reminder for drivers to refrain from driving after taking drugs. Officers emphasised: “Our advice is if you are going to take drugs, then please don’t drive.”
The police highlighted the potential dangers of drug driving as part of their #Fatal5 campaign, which aims to reduce fatalities on the roads by targeting high-risk behaviours such as drink and drug driving, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts.
