Councillors to vote on new childcare centre in Flint

Flintshire County Council’s planning committee will decide next week whether to approve a new standalone childcare building at Ysgol Cornist Park in Flint.
The full application, due before councillors on Tuesday 24 September, proposes a wraparound childcare facility providing 40 early years places for children aged two to three.
The scheme, submitted by Wynne Construction on behalf of Flintshire Council, includes indoor and outdoor learning areas and will operate weekdays from 7.30am to 5.30pm.
Planning officers have recommended approval of the plans, subject to conditions covering traffic management, drainage, ecology and noise controls.
The new block would be built in the north eastern corner of the school site, with a footpath leading from the existing car park.
Flint Town Council has backed the proposal and local councillor M Perfect has also given support.
Public consultation saw 86 neighbours notified, with six objections received citing concerns over parking and overshadowing.
Highways officers said the extra parking demand would fall outside peak times and overall provision already exceeds council standards.
Ecologists confirmed there would be no significant effect on protected habitats, while enhancements such as wildflower planting and bird boxes are planned.
Welsh Water confirmed foul flows can be accommodated in the existing system, and separate approval will be needed for surface water drainage.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board advised consultation with parents, staff and pupils during the development process, and recommended designs that promote active travel and outdoor learning.
Councillors will make the final decision on the application at the meeting.
