Consultation opens on Parc Adfer carbon capture plans

Residents are being invited to give their views on proposals to install carbon capture technology at the Parc Adfer energy from waste facility in Deeside.
Enfinium, which operates the site, said the project could capture up to 95 per cent of the carbon dioxide emitted each year, amounting to 120,000 tonnes.
The company said this would make Parc Adfer the largest carbon removals project in Wales.
The captured carbon dioxide would be transported for permanent storage in depleted gas reservoirs.
Parc Adfer currently treats up to 232,000 tonnes of unrecyclable waste each year, preventing it from going to landfill and generating power for homes and businesses.
Enfinium said the proposals would support the Welsh Government’s target of 100 per cent zero carbon power by 2035, while also bringing local economic benefits through jobs during construction and operation.
A public consultation will run from Monday 8 September to Monday 6 October ahead of a planning application being submitted to Flintshire County Council.
A drop-in event will take place on Tuesday 16 September between 3pm and 8pm.
A webinar is also planned for Wednesday 24 September from 6pm to 7pm, with registration available at www.parcadferccs.wales.
Mike Maudsley, Chief Executive Officer at enfinium, said: “We are looking forward to sharing our plans with the local community and showing them the important opportunity carbon capture represents, both for the environment and for the local economy in North Wales. We would encourage people join us at our in-person and online events to learn more about our proposals and ask us questions. We’re looking forward to sharing these exciting and ambitious plans so people can tell us what they think.”
