Connah’s Quay: Plans submitted for football pitch expansion at Dock Road

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Connah’s Quay Tigers Football Club has submitted plans to create additional pitches for its teams across all age groups.

The proposal, submitted by Outline Building Solutions Cyf, outlines the development of new football pitches adjacent to the existing playing area.

The application, registered on 5 November 2024, covers a site of approximately 7,000 square metres and includes the construction of a security fence to safeguard the facility.

The project aims to enhance community sports infrastructure while adhering to ecological standards.

A key element of the application involves the preservation and enhancement of local biodiversity.

An ecological appraisal, carried out by the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, identified the site as a habitat for common lizards, birds and hedgehogs.

While some scrub and semi-improved grassland will be cleared, the project will retain existing trees and hedgerows, ensuring minimal disruption to the environment. Additionally, measures such as designated basking areas for lizards and habitat management plans will improve the site’s ecological value.

The addition of a security fence highlights the club’s commitment to creating a safe space for sports activities, particularly for younger age groups.

The area has, in the past, been blighted by frequent vandalism.

The application is currently under consultation, with a decision expected by the end of December.

If approved, the expanded football facilities are set to become a valuable asset for the club.
