Reports last night that the Connah’s Quay Cenotaph name plate was missing led to appeals on Twitter and Facebook for information as concerns grew that it had been stolen.

Flintshire County Council Deputy Leader Cllr Bernie Attridge led the appeals which were widely shared across social media sites.

The mystery though has been cleared up this morning, it turns out to be much less sinister than first feared.

The removal of the name plate is part of a planned refurbishment and enhancement of the Wepre War Memorial and surrounding area.

Some councillors and the councils streetscene department were aware of the name plate removal, and its believed a press release had been prepared however it appears not to have been distributed along the usual channels, which in turn led to some fairly unnecessary unpset within the community.
