Flintshire community projects urged to apply for rail grant cash

Community organisations along the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast rail lines are being invited to apply for a new grant scheme worth £20,000.
The Community Resilience Grant, launched by the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership, offers up to £1,000 to groups within five miles of stations on the routes from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Holyhead to Shotton.
The scheme is open to charities, community interest companies and voluntary organisations in Flintshire, Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy and Denbighshire.
Projects should aim to reduce social isolation, promote healthier lifestyles and, where possible, encourage use of public transport. Funding can be used for new or existing initiatives, as well as running costs such as staff, rent or utilities.
Karen Williams, Community Rail Officer for the partnership, said: “I’m excited by this next round of funding and looking forward to seeing who we, as a CRP, support this year. We have formed some strong relationships from our last round of applications, and I hope that this year will open up some new opportunities.”
Joanna Buckley, Community Manager for Avanti West Coast, said: “We’re pleased to have contributed towards this scheme, as supporting causes that matter most to the people and places we serve is important to us.
“With this year marking the 200th anniversary of the UK’s railways, the grant is a fitting opportunity for the community to engage with their rail network here in North Wales and highlight how by connecting people to local groups and activities it can make a positive difference to their wellbeing.”
The fund is supported by Avanti West Coast and match funded by the Community Rail Partnership. It will be administered by Community Voluntary Support Conwy.
Phil Jones, Funding Officer for CVSC, said: “We are honoured to take on the role of administrators for this fund and are fully committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency. Our focus will be on ensuring that the fund continues to deliver lasting impact for its stakeholders and supports sustainable growth for the communities it serves.”
Applications close on 29 August 2025, with CVSC reserving the right to close the scheme early if demand exceeds the available funding. Successful projects must be completed by 31 March 2026.
