Cold callers targeting Mold homes with repair offers

Flintshire Trading Standards is warning residents in the Mold area about rogue traders cold calling at homes and offering to carry out repair work.
The traders are reported to knock on doors without prior notice and offer services such as cleaning roofs, sometimes claiming they can start work immediately. In some cases, they have pressured householders into agreeing to the job and paying upfront.
According to Trading Standards, some residents have handed over large sums of money only for the trader to leave after a couple of hours.
The work carried out has often been poor quality and in some cases has required further repairs.
Residents are reminded that they do not have to answer the door or allow anyone into their home, and have the right to ask uninvited traders to leave.
Flintshire Trading Standards advises against agreeing to work offered by cold callers.
Instead, if repairs are needed, householders should obtain quotes from several reputable traders.
Approved traders can be found through the Buy With Confidence scheme, which lists businesses vetted and audited by Trading Standards.
The directory is available at www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk.
Anyone who suspects a rogue trader is operating in their area, or believes they may have been a victim, should report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
If a rogue trader refuses to leave your property or has taken money and is still in the area, call North Wales Police on 999.
Residents can also request a free ‘no cold calling’ sticker from Flintshire Trading Standards by calling 01352 703181.
