Coastguard called to reports of a person stuck in ‘sinking mud’ on Talacre beach

Coastguard rescue teams were called in to action this afternoon following reports of a person stuck in sinking mud on Talacre Beach.
Teams from Flint and Rhyl Coastguard were scrambled just before 1.30pm today, January 1st.
On arrival at the beach, close to the lighthouse, officers found two children and a dog had “self recovered” but a woman was still stuck ankle deep in mud.
Two members of the rescue team were deployed and managed to safely extract the person from the mud.
The woman, who was suffering from cold and shock was assessed by a waiting Paramedic but no further medical treatment was required.
A spokesperson for Flint Coastguard offered the following advice:
“If you become stuck in mud our advice is always the same ‘Stay calm, try and spread your weight as much as possible and avoid moving.
Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Anybody trapped should also discourage other well-meaning members of the public from attempting to rescue them because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.”
Todays call out was the first of the year for the Flint based rescue team.
Last year the five volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers dealt with 61 incidents spending 588 hours on them across Wales and England from Flintshire, Denbighshire, Cheshire and Merseyside.
Four new recruits are set to join the team this year almost doubling size of the Flint rescue unit.
