Strike action at Airbus has been called off after union members voted to accept a new pay agreement.

Thousands of Unite members at the aerospace company backed the deal in a ballot held this week.

The one-year agreement includes a 3.6 per cent pay rise, a £500 one-off payment, and increases to employer contributions into pension schemes.

Unite said the result followed lengthy negotiations with Airbus management and reflected members’ determination to secure better terms.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “I’m pleased that our members stood together and by doing so they have achieved this improved deal that sees increases to their pay and pensions. It is nothing less than their skill and determination deserves.”

Unite national officer for aerospace Rhys McCarthy said: “We welcome the outcome of the ballot and are pleased that industrial action will now be avoided. This agreement reflects the hard work and commitment of our members while supporting the company’s long-term stability.”

The agreement covers staff at Airbus Broughton, one of Flintshire’s largest employers, where around 4,500 people are directly employed.
