Boost for Broughton wing makers as Avolon orders 90 new Airbus jets

Avolon, a major global aviation finance company, has ordered 90 new aircraft from Airbus, including 15 A330neo wide-body jets and 75 A321neo single-aisle planes.
This latest deal increases Avolon’s total Airbus orders to 79 A330neos and 264 A321neos.
Andy Cronin, Avolon’s CEO, said: “This order demonstrates our strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. Our scale and balance sheet position us to support our airline customers’ expansion and replacement needs into the next decade.”
He highlighted Avolon’s role in helping airlines expand and renew their fleets over the coming decade.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus executive vice president for sales, welcomed the expanded partnership, saying: “Lessors are excellent barometers of the aircraft market, and we are grateful to Avolon for expanding its commitment for the A320 Family and A330neo, so soon after an earlier order two years ago.”
He added: “This endorsement illustrates the strong attractiveness to a wide variety of customers of these two aircraft, the most efficient in their category with the latest technologies embedded.”
The A330-900 features the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, offering longer range and 25% lower fuel burn and emissions than previous models. It also boasts a modern, comfortable cabin experience for passengers.
The A321neo is Airbus’ largest model in its best-selling A320neo family, offering up to 50% noise reduction and over 20% fuel savings compared to older planes.
Both aircraft types are designed to run on up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel, with plans to increase this to 100% by 2030.
The order signals positive news for the aerospace sector locally, with all the wings for the order made at Airbus Broughton.
