Big Dunc’s reaction to Flint Town brew prompts call for volunteers

Duncan Ferguson’s reaction to a hot drink at Flint Town United has sparked a lighthearted exchange on social media and prompted the club to appeal for kitchen volunteers.
The former Everton and Scotland striker was at the Essity Stadium on Sunday to watch his son Cameron make his debut for Connah’s Quay Nomads in their 1-0 win over Newtown.
A video posted by Flint Town United – whose ground is used by Nomads for home matches – captured Ferguson taking a sip of the tea (or possibly coffee) before abruptly discarding the hot beverage.
He then walked away, presumably to throw the paper cup away.
The club shared the clip with a tongue-in-cheek apology, stating: “We would like to apologise to Big Dunc and hope his next brew at the Essity Stadium is far more enjoyable!”

In response, Flint Town’s sports science lead, Martin Jones, defended the club’s refreshments, posting:
“As a level 1 catering assistant in said canteen, I’d like to make the following statement:
- We use Tetley tea bags.
- The individual is in charge of making his own brew.
- Our prices are the best in town.
Big Dunc, come back for a famous Keith burger next time!”
The club followed up with a recruitment advert on X, formerly Twitter, appealing for volunteers:
“KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. Would your brew satisfy Big Dunc? JOIN US!”
Duncan Ferguson, known for his no-nonsense style on the pitch, played for clubs including Dundee United, Rangers, Newcastle United and Everton, where he became a fan favourite.
After retiring, he moved into coaching, spending several years at Everton in various roles, including caretaker manager.
His son Cameron, 21, started his career at the Everton Academy before joining Tranmere Rovers and later Newcastle United’s U21 squad.
He has since played for Forfar Athletic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he was made redundant in October after the club entered administration.
Upon signing for Connah’s Quay Nomads, Ferguson said: “I’m really happy to join The Nomads. Everyone has been very welcoming and I’m keen to help out where I can for a big push to the end of the season.”
