Aston Park Bowling Club in Shotton will have fewer and shorter floodlights than originally planned after Flintshire County Council approved an amendment to an earlier planning permission.

The club was granted permission in April 2025 to install 12 floodlight columns, each 8 metres tall.

Following a tender process, the preferred contractor proposed an alternative scheme with eight columns at 6 metres tall.

Planning officers said the changes reduce the visual impact of the development and would have been supported if they had been part of the original application.

The council’s Pollution Control Officer raised no objections to the revised plan.

The amended scheme has now been approved, with conditions including the submission of updated plans showing the new column height and lighting design.

The decision was signed off under delegated powers on 8 August 2025.
