Airbus pay row escalates as workers set strike dates

Workers at Airbus in Broughton are set to strike for 10 days from early September after rejecting the company’s latest pay offers.
Unite, which represents more than 3,000 fitters and engineers at Airbus UK, confirmed members had voted by 90 per cent in favour of industrial action.
The strikes will begin on 2 and 3 September, with further action planned on 10 and 11 September, followed by five additional days from 15 September depending on site shift patterns.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Airbus is generating billions in profit; workers deserve a fair deal. Our members are simply seeking fairness not favours. Airbus workers have the total support of their union in this dispute.”
The union said the action would disrupt wing production at Broughton and Filton, affecting both commercial and military aircraft programmes and placing pressure on Airbus’s global supply chain.
Unite national officer Rhys McCarthy said: “The pay offer simply doesn’t reflect the money Airbus is making or the current cost of living crisis. We remain ready to negotiate, but we won’t allow our members to be short changed. If Airbus won’t return with a better offer, we’ll be on picket lines in September.”
Airbus said it had made a competitive offer to staff, pointing to pay increases totalling more than 20 per cent over the past three years and a £2,644 bonus payment made in April.
Sue Partridge, Airbus UK country manager commercial aircraft, said: “We have made a competitive and fair pay offer in 2025 that builds on the strong foundations of pay increases totaling over 20% in the last three years and a £2,644 bonus payment made in April this year. Our priority remains to find a resolution together with the Trade Union that ensures the long-term competitiveness and success of Airbus in the UK.”
The company said it was not concerned about the impact on year-end deliveries.
