A494 River Dee crossing in Queensferry to close for night works

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Motorists are being advised to plan ahead as the eastbound section of the A494 River Dee Bridge in Queensferry will close tonight for scheduled maintenance.

The closure is set to begin at 9pm on Friday, 8th November, and will last until 6am the following morning.

The work forms part of a planned maintenance programme to ensure the safety and reliability of the key transport route.

A signed diversion route will redirect traffic around the closure, guiding drivers through Flint, Oakenholt, across Flintshire Bridge, and along the A548 to the Deeside Industrial Estate junction with the A494.

Commuters and businesses relying on the bridge are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and check routes in advance.

Plans for a new A494 River Dee crossing at Queensferry were thrown in to doubt after a Welsh government roads review paused major infrastructure projects.

However, Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates confirmed earlier this year the project will go ahead.

The current bridge, built in 1960, is deteriorating and carries over 50,000 vehicles daily—far exceeding its design capacity.
