Organisers of Wepre parkrun have launched an appeal to raise funds for a new defibrillator after their current unit reached its expiry date.

The defibrillator, which has been in use for almost 10 years, was originally donated by Deeside Athletic Club.

It is now due for replacement to ensure the safety of participants and volunteers at the weekly 5km event in Wepre Park, Connah’s Quay.

Event directors Robert and Phil said the cost of a new defibrillator, complete with a carrying bag and first aid kit, is around £750.

In a statement shared online, they said: “Can you help, please. We need a new defibrillator. The one we have was kindly donated by Deeside AC, but it is nearly 10 years old and has reached its expiry date. It will cost around £750 for a new one, complete with carrying bag and first aid kit.

“You can donate through the link on our website, on the About Us page. Please be careful, it’s the purple button half way down the page, not the yellow one at the top. Thank you.”

The organisers have thanked runners and the wider community for their continued support and urged anyone who can to contribute to the fundraiser via the official Wepre parkrun website, click here.
