Volunteer Coastguard Officers thanked by family after Connah’s Quay rescue
A Shotton teenager and his grandmother paid a visit the Flint Coastguard HQ over the weekend to thank some of the volunteer team who helped rescue him and the family dog.
Kavan Collins was out with his gran, Terri just before Christmas when pet Springer Spaniel Cody jumped off the dock wall at Connah’s Quay and into the River Dee.
With Cody 20 feet below and trapped, Kavan climbed down one of the ladders attached to the wall and onto a boat where he was able to retrieve the dog.
With her grandson and the family pet stranded on a boat Terri called the emergency services and within three minutes Coastguard Officer in Charge Jay Richards was on the scene.
After quickly locating both Kavan and Cody Jay decided to call on RNLI Flint Lifeboat to transport them both back to Connah’s Quay Slipway, both Kavan and Cody were unharmed.
Terri and her grandson popped over the Flint Coastguard HQ on Saturday where they handed over chocolates, biscuits and a donation.
Coastguard Officer Jay Richards commented:
“I’m sure we will enjoy the chocolates, biscuits and the donation will go towards the Coastguard Association Charity, Once again we would like to thank you both for your kind words of thanks and your generosity which is truly appreciated.”
