Flintshire has been placed under two yellow Met Office weather warnings for rain and wind as Storm Amy approaches.

A rain warning is in place from 3pm on Friday until midnight, with heavy downpours likely to cause travel disruption and possible flooding.

The Met Office says between 10 and 20mm of rain could fall widely, with up to 70mm possible over higher ground. In some locations, 15 to 20mm may fall in just one hour.

Forecasters warn of flooding on roads, delays to bus and train services, and a risk of flooding to a few homes and businesses.

Power supplies may also be affected. Strong gusty winds could increase impacts, with drains potentially blocked by fallen leaves.

A second yellow warning, this time for wind, runs from 3pm on Friday until 11.59pm on Saturday.

Gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected in many areas, with 60 to 70mph possible in more exposed locations.

The warning covers Flintshire and much of north Wales, with the strongest winds due overnight Friday into Saturday.

The Met Office says there is a risk of flying debris, damage to buildings and danger from large waves along the coast.

Travel disruption is likely, with some road, rail, air and ferry services expected to be affected.

Drivers of high-sided vehicles are advised to take particular care on exposed routes.

Residents are being urged to secure outdoor items such as bins and garden furniture, check local travel updates before setting out, and prepare for the possibility of power cuts.

The Met Office says conditions should begin to improve during Saturday afternoon, although showers and strong winds are expected to continue in places.

Storm Amy was named by the Met Office to help raise public awareness of severe weather. Forecasters say the storm has been strengthened by the remnants of recent Atlantic hurricanes, which have sped up the jet stream and added to its intensity.
