Reports armed police have stopped a car near Asda roundabout

In an update on Twitter Staffordshire Police have said:

‘We’ve arrested a 48-year-old man for attempted murder in connection with an incident earlier this afternoon in Stoke-on-Trent. Following the incident, colleagues from North Wales Police stopped a car at a supermarket in Queensferry, Flintshire, and a man from Longton was detained’

“He was arrested in Wales at around 5.20pm. This followed an incident which occurred just after 2pm in Foley Road, Longton. A woman was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance with multiple knife wounds.”

Update 5.14pm:

Staffordshire Police have said;

A car has been stopped in North Wales in connection with a domestic-related incident in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this afternoon (Jan 30).

Colleagues from North Wales Police have stopped a car at a supermarket car park in Queensferry. We want to speak to the driver in connection with the incident.

A woman has been taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance with multiple knife wounds following an incident at Foley Road, Longton.

The twitter account for Barton/Manchester based police helicopter tweeted:

16:20 @cheshirepolice Requested to help look for suspect in vehicle near @PoliceWarr . Car sighted and stopped on North Wales border by ground units. Person detained.

Several people have been in touch to tell us there is an ongoing police incident on Chester Road near Asda.

Jake told us up to six police cars are currently near the lights at the Asda junction heading to Shotton.

A number of police armed response units have surrounded a silver Mini, officers were seen at one point with weapons drawn.

One witness told us: “Police incident by Asda lights going towards Shotton police pointing a taser at someone in a car”

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “Officers have stopped a vehicle on behalf of Staffordshire Police. Incident still ongoing”

Police also said: “Please be aware there is an ongoing incident outside Asda Queensferry on the B5129. All surrounding roads including Chester Road East, the entrance from the roundabout and Station road are currently closed. Please avoid the area.”

Abbie said: “Armed police and police dogs surrounding a mini on Asda roundabout and all roads are blocked off”

Police have blocked the exit from Asda car park and Chester Road in both directions.

Flintshire County Council spokesperson has said:

North Wales Police are currently dealing with an incident on the B5129 Queensferry Interchange, the following roads have been closed around the interchange;

B5129 Chester Road West

B5441 Station Road

Asda Access Road

“Please be aware that there’s currently major congestion throughout Deeside.”
