Keep Wales Tidy, the charity behind the awards, has today unveiled the 51 coastal areas that met the high standards required to receive the prestigious Blue Flag, Green Coast Award, and Seaside Award.

This year, Wales has proudly retained 25 of its Blue Flag beaches, along with 14 Green Coast awards and 12 Seaside Awards.

Rhyl is celebrating its win of the coveted Seaside Award.

The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised accolades for beaches, marinas, and boats, owned by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The programme’s mission is to encourage environmental education, sustainable tourism development, environmental management systems, and to ensure safety and access for beach users.

The 25 Welsh beaches achieving this honour had to adhere to stringent criteria related to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety, and site management.

Beyond the Blue Flag awards, 14 Welsh beaches, including a new site at New Quay Traeth Gwyn, were awarded the Green Coast Award.

This accolade recognises their clean environment, excellent water quality, and natural beauty.

The Green Coast Awards celebrate the ‘hidden gems’ along the Welsh coastline, exceptional places to visit and experience the diverse and rich coastal heritage.

In addition, 12 beaches achieved the Seaside Award for the standard of their facilities and water quality, with three new sites at Llantwit Major, Penarth, and Southerndown.
