With Halloween and Bonfire Night fast approaching, North Wales Police are working with partners, including North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and local authorities, to help everyone enjoy the celebrations safely and responsibly.

While this time of year is a highlight for many, it can also bring challenges.

Each year, emergency services see a rise in calls linked to anti-social behaviour.

Police are asking parents and carers to talk to their children about celebrating sensibly and thinking about the impact of their actions.

As part of Operation Bang, Neighbourhood Policing Teams across North Wales have been engaging with young people in schools and youth clubs. Funding from the Police and Community Trust (PACT) is supporting a range of community activities.

The campaign also promotes key safety and respect messages, reminding everyone that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

Shops are being encouraged not to sell flour and eggs to unaccompanied children in the run-up to Halloween.

Inspector Claire McGrady said: “Halloween and Bonfire Night should be about fun, not fear. The vast majority of people celebrate with consideration, but sadly a small minority use the festivities as an excuse to cause upset and commit crime. We’re asking everyone to think before they act, respect their neighbours, and help us make sure that North Wales remains a safe and welcoming place for all.

“Our officers and partners will be out across the region offering reassurance, engaging with communities, and taking action where needed. Together we can protect, respect and enjoy this time of year.”

To help reduce demand on emergency services, members of the public are being asked to contact the right agency for their concerns.

For anti-social behaviour or public safety issues, non-emergency contact can be made through the North Wales Police website. Fireworks sales, noise, and littering or fly-tipping issues should be reported to local authorities.

Residents who prefer not to receive trick-or-treaters can download and display a “no trick or treat” poster from the North Wales Police website.

Further information about the Police and Community Trust is also available via the force’s website.
