Primark stores across the region have raised a staggering £178,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance with the proceeds raised from its bag levy.

Since 2019, Primark branches in Broughton, Wrexham and Llandudno have supported the lifesaving charity through the proceeds of their bag levy, as part of the retailer’s Step Up initiative. The scheme allows employees to nominate local charities to benefit from the funds raised through carrier bag sales.

The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership. The charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for North East Wales, Debra Sima, recently visited Primark’s Wrexham store after the latest donation of £30,103 was handed over.

Debra Sima said: “North Wales Primark has raised an incredible £178,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance since 2019.

“This incredible donation from Primark stores across North Wales will ensure that we are there to support those in need during life or limb-threatening emergencies across the country.

“We are delighted that Primark has continued to support our Charity and we are incredibly grateful to you all at Primark in North Wales.

“The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations, like this, to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road.

“A huge thank you also goes to the public who were happy to purchase a bag knowing the funds would be going to the Wales Air Ambulance. You’ve all played a part in saving lives across Wales.”

The charity’s Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

You can support the Wales Air Ambulance by making an online donation, signing up to the Charity’s Lifesaving Lottery or by coming up with an innovative ways to fundraise at home. Further information can be found via www.walesairambulance.com.
