Mold man jailed for domestic abuse against daughter

A Mold man has been jailed for three years for domestic violence offences against his daughter.
Ricky Richardson, 41, of Denbigh Road, Mold, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Thursday, 9 October, where he was sentenced after admitting controlling and coercive behaviour, eight counts of assault, and one charge of making threats to kill.
The court heard that Richardson would instil fear of violence in his home, regularly assaulting his daughter and threatening to take his own life if he did not get his way.
On several occasions, he indicated self-harm, but when his daughter tried to intervene, he assaulted her. In one incident, Richardson struck her on the leg with a hammer after she asked him to leave following a disturbance at home.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Danielle Craig, said:
“The victim in this case is incredibly brave in coming forward and speaking to the police about the violence, control and coercion she was subjected to at home by her own father – the person who should have protected her.
“I commend her for her courage in speaking out and I hope she can now rebuild her life, without the fear of violence in her home.
“We continue to act on any report of domestic violence and of controlling and coercive behaviour and we will not stop in our efforts to bring perpetrators of abuse to justice.”
North Wales Police said the case forms part of Operation Unite, its response to tackling violence against women and girls.
More information about the operation is available via the force’s website.
