Menai Bridge to partially reopen on Friday morning

The Menai Suspension Bridge will partially reopen to traffic from 07:00 on Friday 10 October following a temporary closure last weekend on the advice of engineers.
Access will be limited to cars, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Heavy goods vehicles and any vehicle over 3 tonnes will not be permitted to cross.
The reopening plan has been developed by UK Highways A55 DBFO Ltd in conjunction with the Welsh Government, North Wales Police, the Isle of Anglesey County Council, and Gwynedd Council.
The bridge will operate between 07:00 and 19:00 each day, with full overnight closures from 19:00 to 07:00 for ongoing works and inspections.
Traffic will flow in one direction at a time. Vehicles will travel off the island from Ynys Môn to Bangor between 07:00 and 13:00, and onto the island from Bangor to Ynys Môn between 13:00 and 19:00.
Cyclists will be required to dismount and use the dedicated footway when crossing, while pedestrians will use a separate walkway. Both will be allowed to cross overnight when the bridge is closed to vehicles.
Emergency access for ambulances unable to cross the Britannia Bridge will be maintained.
Enforcement will be in place to ensure the 3-tonne weight limit is respected. Police say failure to comply could lead to prosecution and further bridge closures.
In a statement, the Welsh Government said: “Work is happening in parallel to undertake the necessary repairs to the bolts. We are working as quickly as possible to remove the 3-tonne limit and will provide an update on an estimated timescale when further information is available.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the local community and thank everyone for their continued patience and co-operation as we work to resolve this urgent matter.”
Entry to the bridge will be managed by Stop-Go boards or traffic lights at the roundabouts on either side. No vehicles towing caravans or trailers will be allowed to cross during this period.
Further updates will be provided via signage and Welsh Government channels if the schedule changes.
